Website launched to support inclusive clinical trials project SENSITISE
Despite global calls for greater participation of traditionally under-represented groups in clinical trials, significant disparities persist. SENSITISE is a co-funded Erasmus+ (2023-1-IE02-KA220-HED-000159532) project designed to educate and train users on the importance, conduct and impact of designing clinical trials that ensure appropriate representation of under-served groups. The website has officially launched this October, providing a central resource for all ongoing project updates.
These under-served populations, which include the elderly, ethnic minorities, socio-economically disadvantaged, pregnant and lactating women, the LGBTQ+ community, rural dwellers, and individuals with comorbidities such as disabilities or mental health conditions, continue to face barriers to participation. Designing and conducting clinical trials is a complex task and all involved agree that investigators need adequate training to carry out their duties. Despite this, at present there is no formal training dedicated to inclusivity in clinical trials available.
To address these issues, an online training course will be developed for undergraduate students studying biomedicine and health sciences and a workshop will be developed to support individuals working and researching in the field of clinical trials.
ECRIN will contribute throughout this project including content review and translation to French and German. ECRIN is also responsible for tasks related to dissemination and evaluation.
