Webinar – Building Bridges in Digital Health Innovation: Data, Policy & People
Webinar – Building Bridges in Digital Health Innovation: Data, Policy & People
- Organiser: SHINE 2Europe (www.shine2.eu)
- Format: Online Webinar
- Dates: 17th November 14-16 CET and 18th November 14-15 CET
Digital health innovations are rapidly transforming healthcare delivery, research, and policy-making across Europe. Projects and initiatives are increasingly focused not only on technological advancement but also on ethical, social, and regulatory aspects that ensure the sustainability, security, and inclusivity of these solutions.
This holistic approach reflects the European Commission’s cross-cutting recommendation to systematically integrate Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) into Horizon Europe projects, ensuring that digital innovation is not only technically sound but also socially relevant, inclusive, and ethically grounded.
SHINE 2Europe, as an active actor in the health innovation landscape, joined forces with key partners organising a focused online workshop bringing together European projects, organisations, and stakeholders to share experiences, align strategies, and strengthen collaboration. The webinar will explore three critical pillars that shape the success of digital health: data & cybersecurity, policy and real-world implementation, and meaningful involvement of people in research.
Part 1 | CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT AND POLICY IN DIGITAL HEALTH
- 17 November 2025 | 14:00–16:00 CET
- Online
This first session focuses on how digital health can meaningfully engage citizens and translate research into real-world policies.
Carina Dantas, CEO of SHINE 2Europe, will open the session with an overview of the aims and agenda, followed by Prof. Dimitris Fotiadis from the University of Ioannina, who will present insights on how MAYA is aligning clinical, social, and technical domains to strengthen cancer care management across Europe.
In the next talk, Marius Geantă, President of the Center for Innovation in Medicine, will explore co-creation and Living Lab approaches that put communities and end-users at the centre of innovation. An interactive discussion moderated by Lars Münter from the Nordic Wellbeing Academy will invite participants to reflect on inclusion, ethics, and policy alignment.
The session will conclude with an Ethical Dialogue Workshop, moderated by Natália Machado, Projects Director at SHINE 2Europe, and presented by Alexandra Dima from Instituto Universitario Avedis Donabedian, addressing how projects can move from principles to action to ensure equity and inclusivity in innovation, based on the Liveration project examples.
Miriam Cabrita, Research Director at SHINE 2Europe, will close the session, summarising key takeaways and introducing Part 2.
Part 2 | DATA PROTECTION AND CYBERSECURITY IN HEALTH INNOVATION
- 18 November 2025 | 14:00–15:00 CET
- Online
The second day turns to one of the most pressing challenges in digital health: safeguarding data and ensuring cybersecurity.
Carina Dantas will connect the discussion from Part 1 to the critical theme of data protection, setting the stage for a panel led by Miriam Cabrita and Carola Schulz, from empirica Technology Research. Together, they will explore how hospitals and organisations can prepare for the new era of data sharing under the European Health Data Space (EHDS) ensuring that sensitive information remains FAIR, secure, and ethically managed.
A moderated open discussion by Prof. Aleksandar Jevremović from Singidunum University will highlight ethical data management and real-world barriers, including federated learning and cybersecurity strategies.
The event will close with reflections and next steps presented by Natália Machado.
Digital health innovation thrives on collaboration. This webinar, co-organised by SHINE 2Europe alongside European initiatives such as Liveration, MAYA, AI4HF, CURTAIN, 4P-CAN, CANDLE, MentaStress, and Viaticum 2, provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
