ERDERA

European Rare Diseases Research Alliance

Funding programme: Horizon Europe (N 101156595)

Budget: €150M EU contribution

Coordinator: INSERM

Duration: 7 years (September 2024 - 2031)

ERDERA aims to have a major impact on rare diseases by supporting patient driven research to develop new treatments and diagnostic pathways and harnessing the potential of health and research data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. The partnership will be crucial in helping shape the European Research Area on Rare Diseases. To this end, ERDERA will promote the coordination and integration of national and regional research strategies, fostering public-private partnerships and global collaborations, and accelerating the transition from knowledge to viable solutions for patients.  Ultimately, this alliance will make Europe a world leader in rare diseases research and innovation, boosting EU competitiveness and creating jobs.

The rare diseases landscape has dramatically changed over the past decade in Europe, thanks largely to the work done by the European Joint Programme for Rare Diseases (EJPRD) and previous partnerships in advancing basic research and clinical applications, fostering patient engagement and enabling important international collaborations.

Building on the achievements of previous partnerships’, ERDERA will:

  • enhance collaboration, align research funding and enable optimal integration of EU and national rare diseases strategies and plans.
  • bridge the huge gap that hampers the translation of research results into cost-effective solutions that reach patients
  • help reduce the fragmentation of knowledge and data and evolve towards a holistic approach to research and innovation in rare diseases.

ECRIN's role in ERDERA

ECRIN will support training and education to improve the clinical trial landscape and ensure that the ambitions of the partnership can be met.
