National Partner International Clinical Trial Days

The Czech Republic, Ireland and Slovakia each hosted their own International Clinical Trial Day events in their respective countries, further emphasising the amazing work being done across Europe in this field. In Cork, our Irish partners hosted a stand in Cork University Hospital where they engaging with the public and stakeholders from across the spectrum of clinical research. Our Czech partners built a program which covered the development of clinical studies in the Czech Republic, including priorities for 2025-2026 and the National Strategy for Clinical Trials and Health 2030. And SLOVACRIN organised a conference, in cooperation with the ECRIN and all key stakeholders involved in clinical research, under the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. The event brought together close to 100 participants from the healthcare, research, and regulatory sectors to recognise and promote the vital role of clinical research.
ICTD in Cork, Ireland
On May 20th, our Irish host institution hosted a stand in Cork University Hospital where they engaging with the public and stakeholders from across the spectrum of clinical research. They were joined by several of their partner organisations, who contribute to the fantastic research within Cork, including APC Microbiome Ireland, Cancer Research at University College Cork, INFANT Centre, Cancer Trials Ireland and In4kids.
At the same time, over in Madrid with ECRIN, ECRIN had Professor Frances Shiely, who is the Director of Education in Cork as well as a lead on SENSITISE and Joanne Walsh-Crowley, Director of Operations & Clinical Trials at the HRB Clinical Research Facility at UCC (CRF-UCC) and Deputy Director of the CRF-UCC in attendance. Other Irish representatives were also present in the room, Fidelma Dunne, Professor of Medicine, Clinician scientist and Director of the Institute for Clinical Trials at the University of Galway also delivered a presentation on the importance of clinical trials in pregnancy.

The program covered the development of clinical studies in the Czech Republic, including priorities for 2025-2026 and the National Strategy for Clinical Trials and Health 2030. Discussions also addressed the role of academic studies, CROs, and regulators, featuring experts such as Radek Policar (Director General for Legislation and Law, Ministry of Health), Jana Hlaváčová (Head of Unit for Patient's Right Support, Ministry of Health), and Lenka Součková (ECRIN European Correspondent for the Czech Republic, CZECRIN).
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to ethical and regulatory issues, the future of education in clinical research, and decentralized and hybrid studies. The event, supported by key partners like the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and State Institute for Drug Control, reinforced the Czech Republic’s position as an attractive research hub. Next year’s event will be part of International Clinical Trials Day and will take place in Prague. See you there!

International Clinical Trials Day 2025 in Bratislava, Slovakia
Accelerating patients’ access to innovative treatments and strengthening Slovakia’s involvement in international research were the key topics discussed by experts at the ICTD conference, held on 28 May 2025 in Bratislava.
